Trying to fit colour with the genre of the magazine
Question Two
How does your media product represent particular social
groups?
Different music magazines have particular social groups like
Kerrang they are more likely to have “emo” or “goths” because they include a
certain genre of music, certain codes, conventional features and the font.
Firstly for my magazine I needed to think like the target audience from my
research and most of them like the music genre Alterative so I had to create a magazine
that my target audience that I’ve aimed at will be suitable to them and that
will represent them. So for the masthead I had to make it clear that I was
aiming at the target audience because the masthead covers a lot of the page so I
had to get a clear one to get the social groups to recognize that it is
representing them and it’s aimed at them.
Also everything else that I included
is very important because things I had was all completely different then the
magazine wouldn’t be representing a particular social group and the audience
that I have targeted would be really big and I would be hard to please everyone
in the audience. So that’s why I included bands because a lot of the alternative
music is bands, so including the bands in the front cover it would be
representing that genre so therefore that will give away what genre my magazine
then that will represent the social group.
The colour of the magazine is very
important because different genres of music represent different colours like ‘Heavy
metal’ is like dark colours and like ‘Pop’ is like light colours. So my reason
for choosing certain colours in because they matched the genre of music which I
was designing around. To do I chose blue, red and white this is because I’ve
been looking in the past of bands and in the present and I was looking at
colours closely to make sure I represent the right stereotype so then it will
represent the social so that is why I included them colours in the final
product.
Question Seven
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
At the start of the whole of the coursework I wasn't very keen on the subject and what we had to create. With the preliminary task I allowed me to see how I got on and if I like the course, so throughout the preliminary task it made me gain experience about InDesign and Photoshop and this made me more confident creating the magazine. Even though I made I bit of editing towards the pictures it and laying it all out I made me have more experience towards the two software and I was making progress with my creation skills.
Then with having the preliminary task done, I then moved on the music magazine with experience and I have ideas, different ways to edit and laying out images and the text for creating my magazine. Once I got some photos for my music magazine I kept of doing the same kind of editing as I did in the preliminary task and that was not good because if I did that then I wouldn't of shown different ways of editing so therefore I would of dropped marks, so I had to then develop the skills throughout the production of the magazine. Also with the font I used was all the same in the preliminary task so I had to develop different fonts as I was going along with the production as well. As I was doing my preliminary task I didn't look at any other school magazines witch I should of because then that would of helped me get ideas as I was going along and that's what I did wrong, when creating my magazine I looked at different magazines to see what they look like with the layout, pictures and the different fonts. Also with my preliminary task, I had no background information of the magazine industry so therefore I was kinda guessing what to do on the front cover front cover by guessing.
So from doing the preliminary task I gave me more confidence for creating the music magazine, a representation how much I have developed from it and I can always look back where I went wrong in that stage and then look at the music magazine if I have made similar mistakes so that allows me to gain more marks and to make the magazine more professional.
Question Six
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this?
The development of my magazine was mainly used on Adobe Photoshop and adobe InDesign the reason why i used this kind of kind of software is because its very creative and school had that software so it was easy to access to create the magazine. But with this kind of software is that its hard to get the hang at the start of the magazine creation but as I got through the magazine I was getting the hang of all of the tools so it was alright to use.
The Photoshop was the hardest advance software to use because that is the software were you had to create the magazine so trying to make your idea happen was hard. But for this software we all had a booklet about the software showing all of the tools and how to use them I thought that was handy because it has saved time developing my magazine and gain a lot of know late about the software instead of watching YouTube tutorials that isn't 100% accurate sometimes. But over pall I found this software a real creative tool towards the magazine because there is a verity of different tools to use to make the production more professional.
The InDesign was slightly more easier because it was all you needed to do was just put things in place like writing some text and drag it around on the page, insert pictures and revise them or crop them out, this type of software has a lot more control where you place things than Photoshop. Before we stated the magazine we had a booklet to help us know all of the tools but it was already easy enough so I didn't really need to use the booklet because Indesign was a simple software to use.
So both of the software I used was from Adobe so they made the two software easy to switch work across from each other. But at the start of the two products I would have to save them into JPEG so I can then use the work on InDesign, this was a slow progress and efficient. Until I knew about Adobe Bridge this is a software is a piece of software that allows different Adobe programs to communicate with each other via different document formats. It is able to track documents when they are moved to different file locations. I found this software useful during the media production.
Question Five
How did you attract/address your audience?
There are many ways to attract an audience to your magazine like having a cutting edge picture, bold and different colours for the font and showing things to win or get for free. I wanted to attract my target audience mainly by the design of my front cover because this page is what the audience is going to see first so therefore I wanted to make the front page really standing out then it gets their attention, them they will be more likely to be attracted to the magazine. To have a good image, my mast to stand then the audience know what magazine they are reading and the genre they are reading. With the image I used a prop and the prop was a guitar the reason I did that is because it hints that the magazine is a music one then the people who like music might be interested in the magazine, then the background of the image is like a rough brick wall to show that it is like getting the artist point across instead of a like a white background and I don't want a white background because it will be too professional and you don't get the artists point of view on their story, also this would be a lot more better for my target audience as well because they are young adults and they could be in there situation, so it could be inspiring towards the audience.
Also on my front cover, I added names of many different bands some were real bands and some of them weren't real this is to get, the bands that was real I used a similar font to the band so then the audience would be able so see them more clear and it would make the magazine more legit. With the different fake names I can make further expansion my target audience and with a further expansion to the audience more people will be attracted to the magazine.

Question Three
What kind of media institution might distribute your media
product and why?
When I was creating my magazine, I wanted it to be aimed
both genders. The reason why I did this is to create a big audience for my mag
so this will mean that more people will like it. At the start of my creating of
the magazine and a theme to the magazine because it was aimed at Brittan music
with “The Who” theme about it, most of the magazine looks like the theme
especially the front cover, which is suited for both of the genders This is
because the theme included colours such as blue, white. These colours are built
into the stereotype of people from Brittan, because the colours include the
Brittan flag.
I want my magazine to be sold in the UK. This is mainly
because of the theme that I have on my magazine. Also I have used the language
English so therefore if I had it distributed anywhere like in Spain then they
won’t read it because of the language and the theme of it. The best distributing
company which would suit my media work would be companies such as IPC Media
because the company is the UK's leading consumer magazine and digital publisher.
Another reason why I like IPC Media to distribute is because this company
already distributes magazines such as ‘NME and ‘Uncut’ and they are a similar
genre to my magazine, So that’s why I think that’s the best option with the
company having experience with the music magazines and many other different
categories in this genre Also another good reason of using this distribution
company is because it would be a competitive market and they are one of best
distribution companies so the chances of my magazine will be more popular
instead of going with a more lower down distribution company and then my
magazine will be less likely to be popular in the market. Thursday, 30 January 2014
