Generating a Frount cover
Production tips
Conception
I need to ensure that the images that I develop are appropriate for the product being constructed, so how I conceive of the intended images is paramount. Also I need to spend adequate time planning my images with planning my images I need to do a basic mock- up plan design for the front cover and other pages throughout the magazine, so I know where to place the images and I helps me get the right shot for the image places.
Framing and composition
This stage takes practice and I should expect to take far more images than I need. Framing can be adjusted through cropping at the editing stage , with good framing it leads to a better quality to the image. Me as the photographer, I am in complete control of the what the viewer sees so the shot types are vital, its good if I take many photos as I can to try and get the perfect photo for my music magazine.Mise en scene
For the mise en scenes I will have to make sure what I have in the image like the right lighting, costumes, props, appearance, background imagery and colour. The reason why the mise en scenes is important is because it helps set the tone, emotion and meaning of the shot to the consumers. This research has helped me plan out my magazine because it told me how many images I should take, mise en scenes included of the shots and not rushing onto the photos and do a mock up plan before them because I was just going take the photos then go on the lay out of the magazine
I got the information from OCR Media Studies for AS

Questionaire results
http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/nstxbc/music-magazines/view
This link is to a poll creator website witch allowed me to create a questionnaire from the draft what I have created on Microsoft Excel, also on this link is shows the response to the questionnaire. The reason why I have created one on this website is because it is quick and easy to use and it shows a great understanding of the results.
The first question was pretty equal because not a lot of people took the questionnaire to the answer was split into many genres except for the alternative and dubstep. The most genre chosen was alternative then dubstep then the rest was equal. In a result of this I think I am going to aim towards a alternative target audience because it was the most chosen answer, I am not going to aim toward the other genre because many people may not like the magazine.
For the second question all of the responses was in the 12-17 age zone except for one, so it is clear that i should aim towards the teenagers, so like design the magazine in a way that young people will be interested in.
Third question about what do you look for in a magazine so it could of been a wide variety of answers but mainly the response was to get information from the magazine also to set out offers, I was going to put the responses in the magazine anyway so with these responses being put down has made me feel like i'm on the right track of creating the magazine.
Lastly I asked if they read magazine and most of the responses do read magazines so that is a good thing because if they didn't read magazines then I think it would be even hard to attract the audience because I would have to really make my magazine to stand out to it looks really eye catching to the audience.
Overall this questionnaire helped me out because its learning about the market and looking into the what the audience want from the music magazines, so I can aim towards the responses when I am planning out the magazine.

Shot Types
·
Master
shot is where the camera shot shows the entire scene from the start to finish.
An example would be like someone is passing a brief case to someone and then
walking away.
·
Extreme
close up it has the effect of intensifying and concentrating an idea, emotion
or atmosphere. An example would be zooming in on to a character eyes to see the
emotion.
·
Close
up is the shot taken to show in detail what it is and taking up the frame. An
example would be a shot taken with just someone’s face and shoulders
·
Medium
shot is some part of the subject in more detail, whilst still showing enough
for the audience to feel as if they were looking at the whole subject. An
example of the shot type would be taking a picture of a person just showing the
upper body.
·
Long
shot is where it shows the object and the atmosphere around it. An example of a
long shot would be a picture of the human body and other objects around the
human.
·
Extreme
long shot can be taken form up to a quarter mile away it is used for setting
the scene. An example of the shot would be setting the scene to a news story
·
Establishing
shot is bigger than an extreme shot putting everything into one picture. An
example would be taking a picture looking at the landscape.
·
High
angle it’s like a bird’s eye view looking down at the scene its taller than the
action An example would be a up on a building looking down on to the characters
·
Low
angle is looking up to an object to make the object powerful. An example of the
shot would be a character looking up towards something in the characters point
of view.
·
Point
of view is to get the camera to the objects prospective. An example would
be looking at the scene at the
characters point of view
The reason why I looked in to the shot types is because it helps me get an idea of what shot type I will use for my magazine in the future, for my front cover and using the photos and in other parts of the magazine.

Questionnaire Evaluation
Questionnaire Evaluation
For my questionnaire I created a Poll junkie poll on the internet, so people can answer them anonymously. The reason why I have created a questionnaire is because so I start to target my audience by asking them relevant questions to music magazines, with these questions I start to plan out my music magazine form the questionnaire. With this questionnaire being set I can have a better clear view of the music magazine.

Production Progress
Production Progress of a Magazine
Introduction
Many of magazines feature articles about certain topics they have covered in previous issues. They do so in a certain way near enough every year. The reason why they do this is because the repeated topics are particularly relevant to their target audience and there is an opportunity to include new developments.Music magazines regularly put a key topic to increase the like hood of getting new readers. Also during the production the editor has to be careful to keep the regular readers and try to new readers to be interested in reading the magazine.Plan
Firstly they create a flat plan, it can be just a single sheet of A4 paper and can be even bigger so they can create little pages drawn on it to make a sequence to the magazine. Then the editor uses the flat plan to mark which page goes where and the positioning is as well. after that they split they colour the flat plan out so they know what the colour scheme is for the magazine, then it is sent down to the print shop when the flat plan is complete. The flat plan is normally is put on a wall in the office, so writers can start to write out the articles in brief and editors can create advertisements in brief. once an article has been sub-edited and revised one diagonal stroke will be put through the article name on the flat plan. Then they final proof read and has had corrections on the article then they put another diagonal stroke across the little page on the article.
Research and Writing
After the brief planning the writers do research and copy writing. Then some of the staff go phoning around celebrities agents to arrange meetings so they can have a interview with the people who they are writing about, the interviewees they normally do some research about them and and try to ask questions about the topic of the article. The editorial team usually take it in turns to sifting through post sent to the editorial office by marketing managers, agents and PR agencies and sorting it into useful items, potentially use able items and rubbish. Invariably it is mostly rubbish. PR agencies will send the same press releases a number of times.Sub- editing
Sub-editing is normally before the page layout or it can be during page layout. If there is one sub editor he/she will act in the interests of quality control and query any loose ends, if the text is not clear to understand the text or items the text. The sub editor will try to fill out all of the page if the article runs to short If the article runs too short. Once they have read an article they will cut it down to a size to fill the space available or ask the person who wrote it to cut down or re-write certain parts to let them know.Production
Once the editorial staff have laid out the pages using software like Microsoft's In Design. Often the layout staff are working with the art director to focus on set the advert pages and the lay out the pages in the magazine.Complex articles are usually given to the art director to arrange a different layout. Most of the publication staff do not typeset pages from scratch, they already have templates created by the art/layout department or they just use on of the templates from an old magazine also they can get the same text form the old articles.
Normally shortcuts are set up in the template or a DTP(desktop publishing) document, so they can put the text into the correct font and size is a simple matter of highlighting the text and selecting style sheet from a floating palette on the screen or pressing a single key on the keyboard.
Proof reading
When the pages are laid out and completed the members of the editorial staff will print them off and then give the pages to the other half of the editorial staff to proof read the pages. After that they mark up the corrections onto a consolidation sheet, next they put the corrections onto a DTP file. As soon as the the corrections are handed in the article will be printed out again to proof read the writing again to make sure they have no errors on the articles, then if there if any corrections have been missed they will change it and then put it in the publication and carry on with the rest of the progress witch is putting the photographs into the publication as well, but before that happens they scan the photos then after that they crop and size out photos so they fit nicely into the publication.
Soon as the sections of the pages is completed they are sent to the advanced printers so then it sends out a printed version to proof read and if looks interesting to see so then they can send the final print for distribution.
Distribution
Once the proof reading has been approved, then they start off printing off the final product. after that they send it off to a warehouse ready for the distribution. Then the magazines are sent to shops to be sold. How this research helped me
The reason why I have researched about the production process is because I feel like I will use the same process for when I am creating my magazine. With this research I could use this for a step by step for the production for the magazine, but I wont be able to get teams together though because it for the my coursework so I have create the magazine on my own. Overall this gives me a clear view about how they music magazines.
