Generating a Frount cover

Production tips

Conception

I need to ensure that the images that I develop are appropriate for the product being constructed, so how I conceive of the intended images is paramount. Also I need to spend adequate time planning my images with planning my images I need to do a basic mock- up plan design for the front cover and other pages throughout the magazine, so I know where to place the images and I helps me get the right shot for the image places.

Framing and composition

This stage takes practice and I should expect to take far more images than I need. Framing can be adjusted through cropping at the editing stage , with good framing it leads to a better quality to the image. Me as the photographer, I am in complete control of the what the viewer sees so the shot types are vital, its good if I take many photos as I can to try and get the perfect photo for my music magazine.

Mise en scene

For the mise en scenes I will have to make sure what I have in the image like the right lighting, costumes, props, appearance, background imagery and colour. The reason why the mise en scenes is important is because it helps set the tone, emotion and meaning of the shot to the consumers.

This research has helped me plan out my magazine because it told me how many images I should take, mise en scenes included of the shots and not rushing onto the photos and do a mock up plan before them because I was just  going take the photos then go on the lay out of the magazine

I got the information from OCR Media Studies for AS

Questionaire results

http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/nstxbc/music-magazines/view

This link is to a poll creator website witch allowed me to create a questionnaire from the draft what I have created on Microsoft Excel, also on this link is shows the response to the questionnaire. The reason why I have created one on this website is because it is quick and easy to use and it shows a great understanding of the results.

The first question was pretty equal because not a lot of people took the questionnaire to the answer was split into many genres except for the alternative and dubstep. The most genre chosen was alternative then dubstep then the rest was equal. In a result of this I think I am going to aim towards a alternative target audience because it was the most chosen answer, I am not going to aim toward the other genre because many people may not like the magazine.

For the second question all of the responses was in the 12-17 age zone except for one, so it is clear that i should aim towards the teenagers, so like design the magazine in a way that young people will be interested in.

Third question about what do you look for in a magazine so it could of been a wide variety of answers but mainly the response was to get information from the magazine also to set out offers, I was going to put the responses in the magazine anyway so with these responses being put down has made me feel like i'm on the right track of creating the magazine.

Lastly I asked if they read magazine and most of the responses do read magazines so that is a good thing because if they didn't read magazines then I think it would be even hard to attract the audience because I would have to really make my magazine to stand out to it looks really eye catching to the audience.

Overall this questionnaire helped me out because its learning about the market and looking into the what the audience want from the music magazines, so I can aim towards the responses when I am planning out the magazine.

Shot Types

·         Master shot is where the camera shot shows the entire scene from the start to finish. An example would be like someone is passing a brief case to someone and then walking away.

·         Extreme close up it has the effect of intensifying and concentrating an idea, emotion or atmosphere. An example would be zooming in on to a character eyes to see the emotion.

·         Close up is the shot taken to show in detail what it is and taking up the frame. An example would be a shot taken with just someone’s face and shoulders

·         Medium shot is some part of the subject in more detail, whilst still showing enough for the audience to feel as if they were looking at the whole subject. An example of the shot type would be taking a picture of a person just showing the upper body.

·         Long shot is where it shows the object and the atmosphere around it. An example of a long shot would be a picture of the human body and other objects around the human.

·         Extreme long shot can be taken form up to a quarter mile away it is used for setting the scene. An example of the shot would be setting the scene to a news story

·         Establishing shot is bigger than an extreme shot putting everything into one picture. An example would be taking a picture looking at the landscape.

·         High angle it’s like a bird’s eye view looking down at the scene its taller than the action An example would be a up on a building looking down on to the characters

·         Low angle is looking up to an object to make the object powerful. An example of the shot would be a character looking up towards something in the characters point of view.

·         Point of view is to get the camera to the objects prospective. An example would be  looking at the scene at the characters point of view

The reason why I looked in to the shot types is because it helps me get an idea of what shot type I will use for my magazine in the future, for my front cover and using the photos and in other parts of the magazine.

Distribution process

Questionnaire Evaluation

Questionnaire Evaluation

For my questionnaire I created a Poll junkie poll on the internet, so people can answer them anonymously. The reason why I have created a questionnaire is because so I start to target my audience by asking them relevant questions to music magazines, with these questions I start to plan out my music magazine form the questionnaire. With this questionnaire being set I can have a better clear view of the music magazine.
